Welcome to our blog!

Well we took the plunge and have booked a ferry to France! Tomorrow we sail... The start of foreign adventures. 

Super exciting, although in many ways we feel like we've already had heaps of adventures over the last few months. What a journey! 2 motorhomes, 4 removal vans hired on 3 different occasions, 2 trips to A&E, 1 course of antibiotics, 1 recovery truck, 2 courtesy cars, 2 boiler men and innumerable takeaways. Dougie said to me yesterday how he'd happily settle in Ivybridge now rather than go travelling and I know what he means. Moving to and exploring a new area, meeting new neighbours, joining the local rugby club, getting settled in a new house, visiting future schools... Its all new and so far all good. We're excited about being here more. The boys have been fabulous. So much change in a short time but one thing is for sure, it's making them very adaptable. 

I'm sure once we get on the ferry - wind in our hair up on deck - we'll have appetite for more adventure... Not to mention 4 large croissants, 2 chocolat chauds and 2 cafe cremes!! A bientot!

Ferry hopping to Christmas pt 2

The 'superfast' ferry to Italy was nice but not a lot for the kids to do... Lucky we had a cabin to sleep for most of it! The kids had dreams of a pool and multiplie tvs but none of that...off season won't have helped. Oh well...first world problems... We enjoyed wandering the decks and then hung out in the 'drivers lounge' when the sport was on.  We had only 4 days in Italy but we certainly made the most of it...we headed for Vesuvius & Herculaneum, then on to Rome...  We camped the night on the slopes of Mt Vesuvius  with a great view down to Naples. In the night the wind picked up and we wondered whether an ascent to the summit would be possible. We had a timed slot for the mountain and we walked in what we thought was the direction of the ticket office only to meet a dead end. We were now going to be late for the reserved time slot we had booked. I 'ran' on ahead and suggested Buzz park up and come and meet me...luckily numbers were not an issue that...

Here we go again...!

Well we're back on the road after a luxury Christmas and New Year at La Taillede. Fine food, fine wine, fine accommodation and very fine company! Thanks to Matt, Ali, Gina, Nige, kids and assorted animals for giving us such a fantastic time. One of the sheep even delivered her darling little lamb 'Helico' (named due to his sticky out ears!) to coincide with our visit! He was a bit too late for our nativity shot on Christmas Day but you can't have everything... We managed a live donkey and stuffed snake! The shot hides the reality of chaotic costume grabbing spontenaity and the worry that food was burning in the kitchen...  Feels good to be back on the road if a bit cramped... I think our bedroom at La T was bigger than the entire van! January plan is to travel round Spain & Portugal chasing the last of the warmth then back to England end of the month for 3 months to regroup and find jobs. Journey to the ferry home.

Sopalmo: blue plant pots and big cacti Well we couldn't have caught covid in a more perfect place...no imminently departing ferries, no hard Christmas deadlines and no sub zero temps! Thank you to the wonderful Chris & Claire for looking after us and to another mate from uni, Robin (and Nicola), who now run a shop out there and who stocked us up with food and drink. Who'd have thought Buzz had so many friends?! 😁 Covid hit us all in different ways... Dougie was fine after the initial temperature, Buzz tired with the occasional hacking cough, me tired and mild flu like symptoms plus no smell and Trevi absolutely nothing. Hard managing different energy levels, especially when back in the van, but I think we got away lightly.  Once testing negative we were back on the road and keen to 'do' again.
